About us
We built IMPROV around one conviction: people change how they lead by doing, not by being told.
IMPROV Communication is an international leadership and team development consultancy based in Helsingør, Denmark. We specialise in psychological safety and emotional intelligence, delivered through Applied Improv in a leadership and organisational context. We are Europe's leading consultancy in this field, and we work with global organisations across Europe, Middle East, Asia and US.
Why we exist
For decades, leadership development has run on the same assumption: tell people the right ideas and they'll behave differently. It doesn't work. You can know everything about trust and still freeze in the moment a colleague challenges you in front of the team.
We started IMPROV because behaviour changes through experience. When you put leaders and teams in carefully designed situations — where they have to listen, build on each other, risk an idea, recover from a misstep — they feel the shift in real time. And what you feel, you remember.
What we believe
We believe psychological safety is the foundation every high-performing team is built on, and that you can't lecture your way to it. We believe failure is information, not shame. We believe the leaders worth following are the ones who stay human under pressure — present, empathetic, connected. And we believe the proof of any training is simple: what changes on the Monday morning.
How we work
Every engagement follows our Facilitator Excellence Roadmap — a seven-phase journey from the first conversation through to the final follow-up meeting. It exists so that every team gets the same depth of change, whichever facilitator leads the room. The logic comes from transfer-of-training research: lasting change depends on motivation before, reinforcement during, and follow-up after. We build all three.
We own delivery in-house. Each client is led by a dedicated facilitator who carries the relationship through the whole engagement, supported by a bench of nine experienced facilitators across Europe.
Who we work with
We work with leadership teams and organisations who take their people seriously — BASF, Amazon, Allianz, Beiersdorf, IKEA and Toms among them. We also co-facilitate the Amazon EPIC Leadership programme in partnership with an AWS EQ Evangelist, bringing their framework to life for senior audiences across the continent.
